MIKE cares about his clients, and goes out of his way to ensure they meet and often exceed their goals.  Whether he’s working with one of his client’s who’s an elite athlete or a client who is new to fitness, his focus is the same.

Athletes understand people with athletic aspiration and as a former competitive rower he’s able to relate.  Mike is a natural coach and motivator.  His drive for learning led him though multiple facets from Community Health Science to Fitness and Health Promotion to Kinesiology.  His passion for sport, interest in human physiology and the desire for everyone to move led him to a career in coaching.  His drive for ongoing education in fitness, nutrition and functional movement keeps him in the top of his field.

JULIA competed in high school gymnastics, badminton, tennis and volleyball.  From a young age, Julia loved (and still does) playing nearly every sport/physical activity imaginable.  Over the past 4 years she’s completed 3 half marathons and many 5km and 10 km races. In 2015 while working as a Marine Microbiologist at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences in Bermuda, Julia started up with CrossFit after watching her husband compete in the CrossFit Open. 

Julia has a passion for CrossFit and general health & fitness that led her changing careers.  Julia got her CrossFit L1 and enrolled at Georgian College for Health and Fitness Promotion.  A healthy life is important to Julia, she follows a plant-based diet and is a macro-counter.

ROB loves his life as a personal trainer. Whether he is instructing a client on how to climb a rope, lift a barbell safely, or help anyone who has the desire to push far beyond their comfort zone.  Rob’s dedication for community and atmosphere is simply undeniable.  

Rob firmly believes that fitness is not just about getting a workout in every day. It’s about breaking through those mental barriers that we feel we can’t escape. He recognizes that health and fitness is about unlocking true potential, as well as making amazingly, supportive friendships along the way.

Travis Steeves - COACH


TRAVIS has a strong passion and drive for life.  This follows him inside the gym. His gym career started out with general fitness and function and progressed into Powerlifting. 

In his downtime he enjoys researching nutrition and training methods, expanding his knowledge in health and fitness and apply it in his own training as well as others. Eager to help others pursue their own fitness goals Travis became certified with YMCA Canada as a Personal Trainer. Currently working as a Youth Outreach Worker Travis is familiar with coaching and mentoring others to set their own personal goals.

Travis is setting his sights on learning and developing with the Barbell Academy and encouraging members perform at their best.
